WHAT IS HALOTHERAPY?

Halotherapy
Breathe salt, live well

What is Halotherapy?

Halotherapy is a natural complementary practice that recreates the environmental conditions of a natural salt cave inside specially designed rooms to help relieve respiratory, skin or nervous-system problems (stress or anxiety).

This technique dates back to 1841 and should not be considered a replacement for medication or treatment prescribed by a healthcare professional, but a completely natural complement that can contribute to improving people’s quality of life and general wellbeing.

How does Halotherapy work?

In these rooms, we create a stable microclimate with a temperature of approximately 22 °C and humidity of approximately 40%, similar to a natural cave.

Using an electronic device called a halogenerator, we project highly concentrated clouds of salt aerosol microparticles into the room, mixed with a clean, dry and constant airflow throughout the session.

The halogenerator also controls air renewal and extraction from the halotherapy room at the end of each session.

These salt aerosol clouds settle on the skin and are also inhaled by clients while they remain in the room.

Halotherapy: benefits and uses.

The main secret of halotherapy, and what makes it so beneficial, is the way mineral salt helps the human body combat respiratory and skin problems.

Halogenerators process salt into microparticles and disperse it evenly and in a controlled manner throughout the salt cave. When inhaled through normal breathing, salt reduces inflammation, opens the airways and helps expel mucus, while also absorbing and removing toxins and allergens and strengthening the immune system.

Salt: the secret behind Halotherapy

The properties of mineral salt have been known for thousands of years.

The salt used in halotherapy is “Farmasal”, different from the ordinary table salt used in cooking.

This salt has special properties that make it very beneficial to health when sessions are taken regularly:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Helps reduce inflammation in the airways, allowing more oxygen to enter. This is particularly beneficial for people with conditions such as asthma or bronchitis, among others, improving lung capacity.
  • Natural expectorant: Salt in halotherapy acts as a natural expectorant, meaning it can help thin and remove excess mucus from the airways. This benefits people with respiratory conditions who may experience mucus build-up.
  • Antibacterial: Salt has natural antibacterial properties, which can help reduce respiratory infections in the presence of bacteria.

In essence, a salt cave is a place where children and adults can go to help their lungs feel better, providing an excellent, natural and pleasant way to complement medical treatment.

As a comparison, the effects could be likened to being in a marine environment (at the beach), but enhanced by removing ambient humidity and using much smaller micronised particles to reach deeper airways.

It can be practised alongside taking medication, as it has no contraindications.

Halotherapy for Children

Halotherapy can be an effective complementary therapy for treating respiratory and skin conditions in children. It is also a completely natural treatment with no contraindications. The following three sections provide more detailed information on the effectiveness of halotherapy in treating these problems in children.

Halotherapy for the youngest children

Halotherapy is suitable for babies over three months old and children of any age. Babies and young children have more delicate, developing immune systems, making halotherapy a safe, effective option for improving their respiratory and skin health. Sessions are gentle and comfortable, and the halotherapy room can be very relaxing for babies.

The effectiveness of Halotherapy in treating children’s respiratory conditions

Halotherapy is effective in treating common respiratory conditions in children, such as asthma, bronchitis and sinusitis. Inhaling mineral salt microparticles helps reduce inflammation and airway obstruction while strengthening the immune system. Halotherapy can also help reduce cough and common-cold symptoms in children.

How Halotherapy can help improve children’s skin problems

Halotherapy can also be effective in treating various skin conditions in children, such as atopic dermatitis, acne and psoriasis. Inhaling salt microparticles can help exfoliate and detoxify the skin, while reducing inflammation and improving the immune system addresses the underlying cause of the problem. Halotherapy can help improve the quality of life of children with skin conditions.

Halotherapy in pregnancy: care for your skin and wellbeing while expecting

Halotherapy is a natural complementary therapy that can help improve respiratory or skin conditions in pregnant women.

Since they cannot take their usual medications during this stage, halotherapy helps keep the airways and skin free from inflammation. It can also help reduce stress or anxiety.

Consulting a doctor before starting any halotherapy treatment is recommended.

Halotherapy as a complementary therapy

Halotherapy is a natural complementary therapy that has been used for centuries to improve respiratory and skin health. It involves breathing in an environment saturated with mineral salt microparticles to benefit health. Halogenerators are controlled by mobile devices or tablets under medical supervision, and room saturation is monitored by a salt-concentration indicator.

Halotherapy and its relationship with medication

Halotherapy is suitable for babies over three months old, children, smokers and former smokers. It is a complementary practice compatible with medication, which it never replaces.

Halotherapy: an alternative to complement treatment of chronic conditions

Halotherapy is indicated for respiratory and skin problems and stress. Sessions vary in duration and are recommended to improve lung function, reduce bronchial irritability and airway inflammation, and address skin problems such as atopic dermatitis, acne and psoriasis. It is also used for sports performance, as it increases lung capacity and helps recovery after training.

Halotherapy in sport.

Halotherapy is a natural complementary therapy that has been used as an alternative for improving athletes’ lung function. Training in environments saturated with mineral salt microparticles can improve lung capacity by dilating the airways, helping oxygen enter and reducing bronchial irritability.

Sports performance: how Halotherapy optimises lung capacity

Athletes who practise halotherapy regularly may experience improved sports performance through increased lung capacity. Training in rooms saturated with mineral salt microparticles strengthens the respiratory muscles and optimises oxygen absorption, resulting in increased physical endurance. Athletes undergoing halotherapy sessions have also been shown to significantly reduce muscle fatigue and improve mood and emotional wellbeing.

Halotherapy in recovery from sports injuries

Halotherapy is effective not only in improving sports performance but can also be useful in recovery from sports injuries. Inhaling mineral salt microparticles accelerates tissue healing and reduces muscle and joint inflammation. Halotherapy also has pain-relieving and relaxing properties that relieve muscle pain and reduce fatigue and stress.

General benefits of Halotherapy in sport:

  • Increased lung capacity and optimised oxygen absorption.
  • Reduced bronchial irritability and improved lung function.
  • Reduced muscle fatigue and improved post-training recovery.
  • Relaxing and pain-relieving properties to ease muscle pain.
  • Improved mood and emotional wellbeing.

Halotherapy in salt caves

Halotherapy in salt caves is an increasingly popular practice because of its many benefits for health and wellbeing. These caves are natural environments saturated with salt microparticles and negative ions, which help improve lung function and reduce airway inflammation, improve sleep quality and reduce stress.

How Halotherapy in salt caves has been recreated

Thanks to technology, we can now recreate the salt cave environment in specially designed rooms, using halogenerators that process salt into microparticles and disperse them evenly and in a controlled manner. This allows us to enjoy the benefits of halotherapy without visiting a natural salt cave.

Salt caves: an environment saturated with salt microparticles and negative ions

Salt caves are natural underground spaces where layers of salt have accumulated over millions of years, and which have been explored for tourism and scientific purposes for decades. By breathing inside them, people can absorb salt’s therapeutic properties, such as clearing the airways and eliminating toxins from the body.

The benefits of breathing in the Wieliczka Salt Caves near Kraków

The Wieliczka Salt Caves in Poland are an example of a natural space adapted to offer halotherapy. These UNESCO World Heritage caves offer a unique experience for visitors wishing to improve their respiratory and skin health. The negative-ion-rich environment and tranquillity also help increase relaxation and emotional wellbeing.

Precautions and recommendations for Halotherapy

Before a halotherapy session, it is important to know certain precautions and recommendations to obtain the best results and avoid potential health problems. The main precautions and recommendations are set out below:

Salt microparticles: an important ally for respiratory and skin health

  • Salt microparticles may remain on clothing, hair and skin after a halotherapy session, so wearing comfortable clothing and covering your hair with a cap or scarf is recommended.
  • If you have open wounds or irritated skin, refraining from halotherapy is recommended.
  • It is essential to respect the session duration and frequency recommended by the halotherapy specialist.

Halotherapy: a natural complementary alternative for improving health

  • Halotherapy is a natural complementary therapy that does not replace prescribed medical treatment but complements it.
  • Halotherapy does not replace medication or ongoing pharmacological treatment. It is important to speak to your doctor before a halotherapy session if you are receiving medical treatment.
  • Despite positive results obtained with halotherapy, there is insufficient scientific evidence supporting its benefits. It is therefore important to remember that it is a natural complementary practice that may help in treating respiratory and skin conditions but is not a miracle cure.

A sense of tranquillity and emotional wellbeing through Halotherapy

  • Halotherapy improves respiratory and skin health and produces a feeling of emotional wellbeing through its relaxing effect on the body.
  • Halotherapy is not recommended as the sole treatment for serious emotional or psychological disorders.
  • The emotional effects of halotherapy can vary from person to person.

RECOMMENDATIONS!

For respiratory conditions the average number of sessions is 10 to 15 sessions .

For cases involving skin problems we recommend an average of 18 or 20 sessions.

We recommend visiting the caves as frequently as possible, with no fewer than three sessions per week, particularly at the start to obtain relief as quickly as possible. Sessions can gradually be spaced further apart as wellbeing improves.

People with longstanding chronic conditions should undertake several cycles throughout the year.

We provide a link so you can consult the number of sessions recommended by clinical studies for your particular condition.

More than a
Business Project

With halotherapy, you will not simply be entering a business project to generate material wealth.

Halotherapy is an elegant business in which you become part of a world of high-quality care.

The cornerstone of our success will be our professional expertise and dedication to clients, their improvement and personal wellbeing.

What kind of
premises do I need?

Location is fundamental when choosing premises.

Look for premises on secondary streets parallel to the main street, as rent will always be cheaper.

  • A minimum floor area of 100 m².
  • Avoid unfinished premises to minimise and reduce the cost of building work.
  • Accessibility: street-level access without architectural barriers for people with reduced mobility.
  • The area should have one or more public car parks and plenty of passing traffic able to see your salt cave sign.
  • Close to nurseries, schools and gyms.
  • Free from damp.
  • Check the water and electrical installations.

Salt Caves
How Many?

We always recommend having two salt caves within the premises.

  • One salt cave for children.
  • One for adults.

The reason for having two caves is that children are more active and have different psychological and emotional needs from adults, who often visit salt caves purely for relaxation.

Salt Caves
Size.

The size of the caves will depend on the size of the premises.

The maximum recommended size is 50 m², as a larger room would require two halogenerators to achieve optimal salt aerosol concentrations.

As a rule, allow 2 m² per client inside each salt cave, with a little extra room for comfort.

For children, salt caves of at least 15 m² are recommended; for adults, no less than 20 m².

If you want to offer haloyoga or another activity within the cave, start with a minimum floor area of 30 m².

Training
and Its Importance.

Respiratory and skin conditions, together with stress caused by current living conditions and the pollutants and allergens to which we are exposed, are becoming increasingly widespread worldwide, particularly among people living in large cities.

Halotherapy does not require a specific qualification, but training in the technique is essential because our clients are not inanimate objects such as bricks or furniture.

We must value the trust and lives of the people who place themselves in our hands for help.

Would you like someone without training to play with your life?

A halotherapy centre sees many clients every day, and each person has different needs.

It is not a matter of pressing buttons at random without knowing what we are doing or why.

Good training gives us confidence and expertise, distinguishing our results from those of competitors.
